Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving day is one of the most celebrated and important holidays in the United States and Canada, it does not have a fixed date but it is celebrated on the last Thursday of November in the United States and the second Monday of October in Canada.

The origins of this festival date back to 1621, by pure chance, in fact the pilgrim fathers wanted to thank the lord for the good harvest in the new continent . In the first Thanksgiving’s dinner there was  turkey, the pumpkin together with other white meat, fish of all kinds, cereals, fresh fruit and candies. In the following centuries the tradition of Thanksgiving extended throughout the country, but the thirteen colonies celebrated on different days until October 1777, but it was only George Washington, the first President of the United States,to declare the holidays for all states in 1789.

On this very happy day, American families are very busy preparing the classic turkey to eat with neighbors or people in need.  Moreover, the Macy's Parade is celebrated on the streets of New York, which this year after a year of virtual parade, due to the covid, returns to the streets, participants must wear a mask and have to be vaccinated.

Macy's Parade is the traditional parade that is celebrated on Thanksgiving Day in New York in this parade thousands of people participate, and there are fifteen colored helium balloons, with tributes to Baby Yoda, Pikachu and the Pokemon, 28 themed floats, more than 800 clowns, 10 marching bands, nine groups of entertainers and dancers, and with the 4,500 volunteers located along the five kilometers of the parade, from Central Park to Columbus Circle, to Macy's department store on 34th Street and Herald Square, in the heart of Manhattan, via 6th Avenue.

Thanksgiving is a special day full of emotions for people and families.
